A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on October 7, 2023 in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.  The service will be officiated by her brother, Gary Woolard.

The family will receive friends following the celebration of life service.

Lucinda was born in Beaufort County on March 13, 1961, daughter of the late Stewart E. Woolard and the late Louise D. Woolard.  She was a 1979 graduate of Washington High School and loved reuniting with classmates.  Lucinda spent a large part of her life residing in Washington with lengthy stops in Beaufort and Newport, NC.  She enjoyed a variety of careers but spent much of her time with Lowes Home Improvement.  Lucy was a “plant whisperer” and could bring the most neglected and dying plants back to life.  She loved and grew beautiful flowers and was especially partial to sunflowers. She adored all animals and was especially fond of her many cats and three Boxer dogs during her life.  Along with her special friend, Phil, she traveled extensively and together enjoyed seeing many national and international sites. Lucy possessed a personality that endeared her to everyone who met her.

Survivors include her brother, Gary Woolard and his wife, Colleen (Tootsie) of Elizabeth City, NC; a nephew, Nick Woolard and his wife, Meredith of Elizabeth City, NC, and a great niece, Kennedy of Elizabeth City, NC; an uncle, Steve Woolard and his wife, Jean of Fletcher, NC; an aunt, Pauline Willard of High Point, NC, along with a host of cousins.  She is also survived by her long-time special friend and companion, Phil Gesell of Greenville, NC.  Lucinda experienced the rare friendship of many childhood and adult friends too numerous to list who were as close to her as sisters or brothers could have possibly been.  Additionally, she enjoyed a special relationship with her young friend, Gracie Whitesell of Washington and was so proud of her accomplishments.

Flowers are appreciated as she loved them and they will be delivered to the gravesite upon completion of the celebration of life service.  Or you may donate to the charity of your choice in her name if desired.

The family would like to thank the staff(s) of the multiple Vidant Hospitals who cared for her over the years.  Also, thanks to the staff of Edenton House Senior Living and Gentiva Hospice, who provided care for her over the past few months.
