In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Washington Harbor District Alliance and Washington Waterfront Underground Railroad Museum have come together for Saturday’s In The Park. It’s an opportunity for young and old alike to come together, socialize, and at the same time show off their artistic sides. “We wanted to create an inclusive environment for people of all cultures to come together and have some fun with art.,” said local artist and volunteer Yvonne Curtis.
Curtis has created a coloring page for quilts that may have been used by the enslaved as messages on fences and wagons during the period of the Underground Railroad. And a whimsical coloring page in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month. “One of my favorite things about Washington is its diversity,” said Curtis. “It is just fun to get together and celebrate each other and what we all have in common.”
Saturday’s in the Park will be held September 23rd, 30th, and October 14th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Washington Waterfront Underground Railroad Museum at the corner of Main and Gladden Streets. All are welcome.
