PCA update: Stoop reaches milestone

Volleyball: The Lady Raiders won three straight matches, 3-1 over Ridgecroft and 3-0 over Northeast Academy and Washington Montessori.
Anna Stoop had a career high 40 assists in the Ridgecroft win and was recognized for her 1,000th career assist. She is the first player in school history to reach this milestone. Allison Sawyer led the Raiders with 18 kills. Autumn Gibbs had 12 kills and 10 service aces. She had 27 kills in the other two matches, while Stoop totaled 47 assists and 13 service aces.
PCA is now 11 – 6 and ranked third in the latest NCISAA 1A poll. The TIC Tournament begins next week.
Soccer: The Raiders lost to conference foe Ridgecroft School, 6-5 on penalty kicks with a chance to clinch their third consecutive regular season championship. 7th-grader Colin Crocker scored off a cross from Maddox Lee to take a 1 – 0 lead, but the Rams ultimately forced a tie for first place.
PCA lost to Washington Montessori, 1-0 to fall to 6-4-1 and are third in the NCISAA 1A poll.
Tennis: The girls tennis team dropped two crucial NCISAA and TIC matches last week, 7 – 2 to Ridgecroft School and 8-1 to defending 1A state champion Oakwood School. The #1 doubles team of Katie Baxter and Melanie Rutledge earned an 8-4 victory. Rutledge and Kaitlyn Williams won 8-0 in doubles Monday against Martin County, but the Raiders lost, 8-1.
Cross Country: The boys team completed a stretch of three meets in seven days with a pair of second-place finishes. Luke Rouse won the boys division with a 20:18 time at Northeast Academy. Colin Crocker and Gage Spencer were sixth and seventh to help the Raiders earn second place. Mia Paniagua (27;21) led the girls and finished fourth overall. Sisters Emily and Peighton Copes finished sixth and seventh for a second place team finish.
Rouse finished second for the first time all year at Albemarle School despite e personal record time of 19:32. Crocker and Spencer finished seventh and eighth with season best times under 22 minutes to give the Raiders second place. Peighton Copes led the Lady Raiders with a season best time of 26:05. Emily Copes, Katie Bowes and Paniagua each ran season best times under 28 minutes to help PCA win second in the girls division.
Rouse bounced back with win at Ridgecroft School in the final regular season meet, but PCA was unable to place as a team since Wade Elliott and Crocker were out with injuries. The Lady Raiders finished in second as the team continued to improve on their times.
Football: PCA fell 51 – 6 to Lawrence Academy at home on Friday. Quay Artis scored the only touchdown on a five-yard run. Artis had 92 rushing yards while Austin Gibbs (51) and Wells Eagles (42) combined for 93. PCA is 3-2 and travels to Northeast Academy Friday.
