Top performance: Salinas leads heavy ground attack

Sophomore fullback Brian Salinas had the performance of the week as he ran for 207 yards and four touchdowns in Southside’s 69-34 rout at Lejeune. The Seahawks led 41-14 at halftime and posted their highest rushing total this season with 463 yards on 43 carries and six touchdowns to raise their record to 2-6 and 2-1 in the Coastal Plains 1A/2A Conference.

Senior Tequon (Tater) Moore gained 102 yards on 18 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns, while junior Myquan Clark carried eight times for 123 yards and a touchdown.

Salinas, Moore and Clark went over the 100 yard mark in the same game for the second time this season after combining for 332 yards in the win over Pamlico County two weeks ago.

Moore also caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Luke Bullock, who went 4-12 for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Senior Nolan Dixon caught the other scoring pass.

Clark had a team-high seven tackles and intercepted a pass, while Moore also had an interception.

Northside: The coaches agreed to let the clock run continuously starting in the second quarter at Jones, as the Panthers prevailed 40-0. Northside (6-2, 3-0) maintained first place in the CPC with 239 rushing yards on 15 carries, while the defense posted its second shutout.

Senior Jamie Corprew went over the 1,000 yard mark with 90 yards on only five carries. He scored three times, including one from 59 yards out. Zanek McCloud had 43 of his 53 rushing yards on a touchdown run, while Malachi Moore and Faithful Fulcher also scored touchdowns.

Senior Dashawn Smith had a team-high seven tackles, including three for loss, Griffin Johnson had two tackles for loss as did Landon buck, who also blocked a punt.

Washington: The Pam Pack (2-6, 0-4) gained just 145 yards of total offense   as they lost on the road to North Pitt, 42-0. Senior Keondrick Melton had a team-high 41 yards rushing, while Cameron Whitley was 6-13 for 73 yards with three interceptions. Jamel Corey caught two of his passes for 45 yards.

Evan Sheppard had a team-leading eight tackles, while Marek Bates added seven, including three for a loss. Gary Payne also had seven, including two for a loss.

Pungo Christian Academy: The Raiders lost 58-12 to undefeated Halifax Academy in Roanoke Rapids. PCA (4-3) scored both touchdowns in the first quarter on a 52-yard run from Quay Artis and a fumble recovery in the end zone after a high snap from center by Braeden Armstrong. The fourth-ranked Vikings responded with 30 in the quarter and led 51-12 at halftime in the 8-man matchup. PCA is 4-3 with one game left in the regular season while Halifax is 6-0.
