Mrs. Dorothy Eudora Wilson Egli, age 94, a resident of Washington died Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at her home with her family by her side.

A graveside funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Phillip Paul.

Mrs. Egli was born in Beaufort County on May 19, 1929, daughter of the late Josh Tayloe Wilson and the late Ethel Gerard Wilson. After graduating from the Old Washington High School in 1947, Dorothy headed to New York and the Grace Downs Stewardess training and modeling school. There she trained for almost a year before becoming one of the first flight attendants from the South, for United Airlines. It wasn’t long after her career started, that she met her future husband Glenn Egli in Los Angeles, when she was set up on a blind date by one of her friends. Once married, they moved to Orange CA, and it wasn’t long after that Andrea Jayne Egli was born and four years later Stuart Glenn Egli came along. Dorothy became immersed in the world of antiques in the early 70’s. She traveled the country buying and selling glassware, pottery and almost anything collectible. She had an antique store in downtown Orange CA, where she was a fixture for almost 35 years.

Her later years were spent with Glenn heading back to Washington, NC for the Spring and Fall seasons. Once Glenn passed at age 89, she spent most of her time immersed in her antique business. In late 2018, she moved back to Washington, to be with her son Stuart and his wife Marita Egli, whom she lived with until her passing.

Survivors include her children: Andrea Egli Murphy and her husband James of Escondido, CA, and Stuart Glenn Egli and his wife Marita of Washington; a sister: Ann Schreiber and her husband Georg of Albuquerque, NM; and grandchildren: Connor James Murphy and Kiera Ann Murphy. Mrs. Egli was predeceased, along with her parents and husband, by a sister: Bennette Roberson.
