The Washington Harbor District Alliance (WHDA) illuminated the city with festive cheer during the annual tree lighting ceremony, “Light Up the City,” on the night of Tuesday, Nov. 21. The event featured a performance by students from John Cotton Tayloe Elementary School on percussion instruments and a choir that serenaded the crowd. Meg Howdy, the Executive Director of WHDA, and Mayor Donald Sadler delivered remarks, setting the tone for the holiday spirit. Mayor Sadler, joined by the eager children in attendance, led a countdown culminating in the illumination of the Christmas tree. Santa himself made an appearance at the Harbor District Market, where attendees could indulge in hot chocolate and cookies, rounding out an evening of community celebration.
