Washington, N.C. — After 21 years of service as District Attorney for Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell and Washington counties, Seth Edwards formally filed to continue his career of service as a Superior Court Judge.
“As DA, I’ve dedicated the last 21 years to serving the public, enforcing the laws of North Carolina, and supporting and defending the principles set forth in our Constitution. Serving as a Superior Court Judge is just a natural progression in that service,” said Edwards shortly after filing his election paperwork at the State Board of Elections in Raleigh.
Seth was born and raised in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1983 where he excelled in three sports and received his Eagle Scout award. Seth earned a Political Science degree from Duke University in 1987 while lettering in Varsity Baseball all 4 years. As a senior at Duke, he was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference Honor Roll and was voted team captain. Seth earned his law degree from Campbell University School of Law in 1990 and entered the private practice of law, working in High Point for two years before moving back home to Washington to open his own firm. Seth practiced law for several years with his wife, Kim, before defeating the sitting District Attorney in the 2002 primary election.
Seth’s professional organizations include the national and state District Attorney’s Associations and the NC State Bar. He has served as President of the NC Conference of District Attorneys as well as Treasurer of the Beaufort County Bar Association and Secretary of the Eastern North Carolina Inn of Court. In 1997, the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization recognized Seth as a Board-Certified Specialist in State Criminal Law. Seth formerly served on the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission, and currently serves on the North Carolina Criminal Justice, Education & Training Standards Commission.
