Alton Theodore Windley, Jr., age 77, a resident of Washington, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at his home with his family beside him.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday December 28, 2023, in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and will be officiated by Pastor Deborah Paul and Pastor Thad Tankard. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers include David Windley, Josh Windley, Cody Windley, David Brinkley, Timmy Craig, and John Verhoeven.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday December 27, 2023, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.

Alton was born in Beaufort County, son of the late Alton Theodore Windley, and the late Leah Braddy Windley. Alton attended Beaufort County Community College for Automotive Technology. He enjoyed serving the Lord and his church, New Hope Worship Center, reading his Bible, family, fishing, target practicing, boat riding and watching “Gunsmoke”. On July 23, 2005, he married the former Linda Carol Biggerstaff who survives. He worked in the maintenance department of the Washington Housing Authority.

Surviving Alton along with his wife, Linda Windley of the home are his children, Dalton Windley; David Windley and his wife Vicky, and Angel Morawe and her husband Josh, Lina Fisher and her husband Aaron; stepchildren, Worth Biggerstaff and his wife Samantha and Justin Biggerstaff and his wife Febe; brother, Ronnie Windley and his wife Karen; sisters, Pastor Deborah Paul, Velma Boyle and husband John and Nelva Marizino; grandchildren, Sam Melendez and her husband Luis, Joshua Windley, Leah Windley and Hunter, Cody Windley, Arella Morawe, Caleb Morawe, Hudson Fisher, Kaliyah Biggerstaff, and Tristan Biggerstaff.

Alton was preceded in death, along with his parents by, a daughter, Sonya Windley; sisters, Helen Clark, Jean, Pauline Edwards, Wanda, and Lorraine Craig; and a brother, John Phelps Windley.
