BCSO assists in arrest of Washington man accused of stealing Christmas presents and firearms

On Dec. 18, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a breaking and entering at a residence on NC 43 S. in Greenville where the suspect stole Christmas presents and several firearms. Pitt County detectives quickly developed a suspect and detectives with Greenville Police Department utilized traffic cameras to confirm this information.

Pitt County detectives worked with Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office to serve a search warrant in their jurisdiction where several items were recovered. During the search warrant Beaufort County recovered stolen items related to their breaking and entering case.

Detectives with Pitt County and Beaufort County obtained warrants for 41-year-old Christopher O’Brian West of Washington. Several days later, it was discovered Mr. West had pawned items in Washington, NC from the breaking and entering. These items were recovered and additional warrants were obtained for Mr. West by the Washington Police Department.

West was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 21, 2023. Warrants stemming from Pitt County crimes include: Breaking and Entering, Larceny after Breaking and Entering, Larceny of Firearm (4 counts), Possession of Stolen Firearm (4 counts), and Possession of Firearm by Felon (4 counts).

He remains in custody in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a total $75,000 secured bond pending his first appearance.
