For the second year in a row, Southside head football coach Jeff Carrow came the closest of the county coaches to picking the correct final score of the college football national championship game.
Michigan pummeled Washington, 34-13 in a matchup of 14-0 teams, to claim its first national title since 1997.
Carrow, Washington’s Matt Taylor and Alex Sefton of Pung0 Christian Academy predicted a Michigan win, but Carrow’s 35-21 score came the closest. Northside’s Keith Boyd chose Washington in an upset that was not to be. Carrow’s comment that he thought Michigan had already played the national championship game against Alabama in the semifinals turned out to be prophetic played
“I just figured Michigan could run the ball (303 yards) behind an outstanding offensive line and I also thought their defense could put enough pressure on the Washington quarterback (Michael Penix Jr.) to make him hurry his throws,” Carrow said “Their blitz got him off balance and the secondary did a good job in coverage. It pretty much turned out that way as Michigan played like they needed to. Michigan’s quarterback did a good job of managing the game and not turning it over. It worked out well and I enjoyed the game.”
Taylor and Sefton both had Michigan winning 34-24.
All four coaches predicted Georgia would win last year over TCU and Carrow came closest to the final score.
