Suspect faces murder charges in multiple-agency investigation

(Raleigh, NC) – The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, and the Chowan County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a joint death investigation. Jordan Isaiah Thomas, 29, of Edenton has been identified as the suspect in the case. He is currently in custody on two charges out of Beaufort County: larceny of a motor vehicle ($50,000 secured bond) and concealing the death of a person ($500,000 cash bond). The victim is believed to be Amarriah Smith, 19, pending positive identification. An additional warrant for murder out of Chowan County was obtained for Thomas who’s already in custody on charges stemming from the portion of the investigation in Beaufort County. This investigation remains ongoing. More information will be shared at a later time. Sheriff Hammonds appreciates the partnerships with all agencies involved in this incident.
