Mrs. Audrey Pearl Dixon Jones, age 94, a resident of Chocowinity, NC passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday January 18, 2024, her 71st wedding anniversary.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday January 20, 2024 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens and will be officiated by Jason Kirkman. Pallbearers include, Barry Ingalls, Tommy Hardison, Allen Bullock, Buck Davis, Jim Buckman, and Chuck Guard. Honorary pallbearers include, J.D. Edwards, Steve Gerard, and Wayne Woolard.

Mrs. Jones was born in Beaufort County on July 14, 1929 and was daughter of the late David Wright Dixon and Pearl Estelle Buck Dixon. She graduated from Chocowinity High School in 1947. She married Max A. Jones, Sr. on January 18, 1953, who preceded her in death on November 20, 2011.

Mrs. Jones was a loving and patient wife, mother, MeMaw, aunt and a friend to all who knew her. While managing a busy household, she worked at Sears in Washington for 27 years. MeMaw spent many happy hours sewing, working in the yard, going to the beach and ballgames as long as Caroline and Chuck were in school. She loved life and her laughter was infectious and joyful. She was a good Mama that valued family above all else and will be remembered for her love, strength and encouragement. Mrs. Jones was a faithful and active member of Haw Branch Church of Christ as long as her health allowed.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her son, Max A. Jones, Jr. and his wife Linda of Blounts Creek; her daughter, Therese Jones Guard of the home; grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Guard of Chocowinity; Charles “Chuck” Jeffery Guard, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of New Bern; sister-in-law Lola W. Dixon and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lyndal Dixon Mills, Brother David Vance Dixon, and former son-in-law, Charles Jeffery Guard, Sr.

In July of 2007, her husband brought home a 5 week old Boxer puppy, which they named “Bear” after much discussion. Bear quickly became her beloved four-legged sidekick listening only to her, which always “irked” Max, being a hunter and dog trainer for many years. They were best friends as she would secure him safely in the passenger seat belt as they traveled around. Bear crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2016 and is thrilled with her arrival for all his sloppy kisses once again.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday January 19, 2024 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
