Cynthia Ruth Waddell (better known as Ruth Gray Haddock), 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Helen Congleton Waddell (Modlin) and two brothers, Richard Waddell and Clifton “Speck” Waddell.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Christie Gray Noe, of Raleigh; two sisters, Gertrude Wallace and Fannie Romanger, both of Bath; three grandchildren, Brandon Waters and wife Kaley of Washington, Adam Waters and wife Song of the Netherlands, and Meghan Waters of Pinetown; three great grandchildren, Mason, Trent and Adaline Grace and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Ruth grew up in Bath, living in the Hawkins Beach Community her entire childhood and graduated from Bath High School. She was a member of Washington Moose Lodge #1800 for many years. She spent many hours in the old lodge located on 5th street- Friday night Bingo, volunteering to cook hamburgers and hot dogs at Bingo intermission, organizing many events and she served as Senior Regent of the Women of the Moose multiple times over the years. One of her greatest joys was visiting and organizing fund raising events for Mooseheart homes, the children’s charity affiliated with the Moose Lodge. In her later years, she loved dressing in a clown costume and attending Moosehaven homes to bring smiles to the older residents.
Ruth had a rare passion for life, but she was deeply rooted in Beaufort County and rarely left its county lines. She was always the life of the party, never met a stranger and loved to be the center of attention. She had a flare for decorating, loved working in her yard and was always ready for the public eye any time she was out on the town, hair perfect, makeup done and dressed in her eccentric bright style that she carried so well. Her love for animals was shown with her four-legged companions over the years. She loved her little doggies and treated them like her children.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
