Mrs. Betty Pillow Crompton, age 93, a resident of Washington, NC passed away Monday February 5, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

A graveside service will be held Saturday February 10, 2024 at 2:00PM at Oakdale Cemetery and will be officiated by Dr. Greg Barmer.

Mrs. Crompton was born in Old Hickory, TN on May 17, 1930 to the late Timothy Carpenter Pillow, Jr. and the late Mary Ora Burton Pillow. She was a 1948 graduate of Conrad High School in Wilmington, DE, and a 1952 graduate of the University of Delaware. On November 1, 1952 she married William Burrell Crompton, Jr. who preceded her in death in May of 2013. Mrs. Crompton has resided in Beaufort County since 1978. She worked part time with H&R Block in Washington for 13 years but she saw her true occupation as an officers wife, living the military life she traveled the world raising her family. Mrs. Crompton enjoyed playing bridge with her friends of many years, oil painting, sewing, gardening, digital photography, reading, and she would say “my favorite thing was time spent with my children and their families.” She was a former member of the Washington Yacht and Country Club; former board member of Friends of Brown Library, and Literacy Volunteers Beaufort County.

Survivors include her sons, William B. Crompton, III and wife Diana of Annapolis, MD, Timothy L. Crompton and wife Pat of Washington, Richard E. Crompton and wife Daisy of San Diego, CA, six grandchildren, Sarah Crompton Hayes and husband Matt, William B. Crompton, IV and wife Colleen, Ashley B. Crompton, T.J. Crompton and wife Catherine, Christian B. Crompton and Callen Burill, Kyle I. Crompton and one great grandson on the way.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:45PM Saturday February 10, 2024 at First Baptist Church and other times at the home.
