A CSX rail-based freight train derailed near a substation on Highway 306 near Aurora, at approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10. The incident occurred on a Norfolk Southern rail line.
Fourteen cars were impacted by the incident. Some of the cars were carrying molten sulfur, according to Beaufort County Public Information Officer, Brandon Tester. An overturned car began leaking; however the hot sulfur hardened when it met the cold air. Therefore, there were no additional issues. There were neither injuries, property damage nor environmental hazards to report, Tester wrote in an email to the Daily News.
Service was restored by Sunday evening, according to local media outlets.
