Mr. James Luther “Jimmy” Cox, age 85, a resident of Washington, NC died Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at his home with family by his side.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Christopher Rawls. A burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Patrick Bouquio, Brad Bouquio, Justin Cox, Johnnie Holton, Joseph Howard, and Christopher Rawls.

The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday March 23, 2024, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.

Mr. Jimmy was born in Pitt County on August 2, 1938, son of the late James Ottis Cox and the late Katie Mae Woolard Cox.  He attended Washington High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy. On November 20, 1958, he married the former Mary “Virginia” Everett who survives. He retired as a construction engineer in 1999 from Fluor Daniel Company at Dupont of Kinston after thirty-one years of service. He has also worked at Washington Cabinet Company. Mr. Jimmy was a member of Washington Moose Lodge and attended Second Baptist Church of Washington.

Surviving along with his wife, Virginia, of the home are his children: James Ottis Cox and his wife Darla of Washington, and Darleen Cox Smith and her husband Lee of Washington; grandchildren; Jamie Meade, and her husband David, Kelly Pickert and her husband Jake, Patrick Bouquio and his partner Brooke, Brad Bouquio and his fiancée Lindsay, Christopher Rawls and his wife Rose, Timmy Cox, Justin Cox and his fiancée Hannah, Johnnie Holton and his wife Darlene, Joseph Howard and Tessa Abbate and her fiancé James; and great grandchildren: Bailey Meade, Dawson Meade, Braylee Bouquio, Georgia Pickert, and Raleigh Pickert.

Mr. Jimmy was predeceased, along with his parents, by a son: Edwin Allen Cox.
