Lady Raiders still undefeated after wild win

Baseball: The Raiders won their most recent games, 9-4 at Oakwood School in Greenville Friday and 11-3 over the Albemarle School Monday in Elizabeth City. The Raiders came out swinging with seven runs in the first against Oakwood. Carr Eagles led PCA with two hits and an RBI. Luke Alligood had a hit with two RBI while Bo Spencer, Hayes Walker, Parker Byrd, Wells Eagles and Dylan Parker also added hits. Jackson Walker earned the pitching win with four strikeouts and two earned runs.
The Raiders (7-4, 4-0) and Albemarle were tied at three when PCA scored eight runs over the final four frames to win, 11 – 3. Spencer led PCA at the plate with two hits and three RBI. McKinney Waters added a hit and two RBI. Hayes Walker and Carr Eagles also picked up hits for Pungo. Five Raiders saw action on the mound as Jackson Walker collected another win with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings.
Softball: Friday the Lady Raiders traveled to Faith Christian school in a NCISAA divisional matchup. Pungo (10-0, 3-0) scored 16 runs through the first four innings for a 16 – 3 lead before the Lady Patriots responded with nine runs over the next two innings to make it 17 – 12. Each team scored three in the 6th before the Lady Raiders put the game away with 11 runs in the top of the 7th for a 31-15 final score. The 31 runs are the most ever under veteran head coach Leigh Stoop and is one of the highest scoring games in school history. Reese Blackman hit her first career homerun to go along with five RBI. EllaKate Hanna also homered and tied a school record with six RBI. Melanie Rutledge added the Raiders third home run to go along with three hits and five RBI. Emma Hanna, Joelie Pair and Bristol Cutrell combined for 10 hits and 10 RBI in the game. Anna Stoop picked up the win on the mound, with four strikeouts and six earned runs in five innings.
Soccer: Pungo visited Oakwood School Friday for a pivotal 1A match. The Lady Raiders played a near perfect first half, going up 2 – 0 with goals from Brooklyn Bowes and Katie Baxter. The Lady Eagles responded in the second half to tie with just under 20 minutes to play. Reagan Walker kicked the go ahead goal from nearly 25 yards out with just minutes to play. The Raiders held off the Eagles for a crucial 3 – 2 victory. Autumn Gibbs had eight saves in goal while Julia Rouse added an assist.
Monday the Raiders (7-2, 4-0) traveled to Ridgecroft School and clinched first place in the conference with a 9-1 victory. Baxter and Rouse scored twice while Brooklyn Bowes and Sayla Brown added goals to make it 6 – 0 at the half. Ginny Grace Pugh, Kerrigan Arnold and McKinlee Cox all scored their first career goals in the second half.
Golf: PCA had their best finish of the season Tuesday with a team score of 153 at Occano Country Club in Merry Hill to take third place. Drew Van Staalduinen and Harbor Pair each shot 50, while Luke Alligood shot 53 to complete the scoring. Maddox Lee also shot a 56 for the Raiders. The team travels to Valley Pine Country Club in Lasker today for their final regular season match.
