Former Northside High School basketball standout Bam Adebayo will try to add a second Olympic gold medal to his collection this summer in Paris.

USA Basketball named the 6’9 former Pinetown resident to its twelve man team for the second straight time after the current Miami Heat standout was part of the gold medal winning team in the 2020 Games in Tokyo, Japan.

He joins Dwayne Wade as the only two Heat players to compete in multiple Olympics.

Adebayo started all six games for the 2020 squad and averaged 6.3 points, a team-leading 5.7 rebounds, two assists and 1.17 blocked shots per game. He led the team in offensive rebounds, total rebounds and blocks while finishing second in defensive rebounds and third in steals. He played 19 minutes a game and shot 57 percent from the floor.

He averaged 19.3 points, 10.4 rebounds and shot 52 percent from the field for the Heat this season and posted 42 double-doubles in 71 games. He also was third among Heat players with 278 assists.

Other players named to the team include Davin Booker (Phoenix), Stephen Curry (Golden State), Anthony Davis (L.A. Lakers), Kevin Durant (Phoenix), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana), Jrue Holiday (Boston), LeBron James (L.A. Lakers), Kawhi Leonard (L.A. Clippers) and Jayson Tatum (Boston).

Golder State head coach Steve Kerr leads the coaching staff with assistants (Erik Spoelstra (Miami), Tyronn Lue (L.A. Clippers) and Mark Few (Gonzaga).

The squads has a combined 11 Olympic appearances and owns 10 gold medals. In total the U.S. will take 12 NBA All-Stars, four NBA MVP’s and six NBA champions to Paris.

Team USA hosts Canada July 10 in Las Vegas to open the USA Basketball Showcase after opening training camp July 6.
The Americans will embark on an international training window by hosting Australia and Serbia July 15 & 17 in Abu Dhabi, followed by games in London July 20 & 22 against South Sudan and Germany.

The American men will compete for their fifth straight and 17th overall Olympic gold medal.
