Mrs. Peggy Ann Jackson Ayers, age 86, of Washington, died Friday May 10, 2024, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30PM Wednesday May 15, 2024, in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be officiated by Reggie Braziel. Pallbearers will include Mitchell Ayers, Ashley Brown, Paul Allen, Lee Ferguson, Bobby Jackson, and Wesley Judson. Honorary Pallbearers will include Leon Wynn and Ralph Iscaro. A burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens in Williamston. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30PM until the funeral hour at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory.

Peggy was born November 1, 1937, in Martin County, NC, the daughter of Mildred and Cleo Jackson of Robersonville, NC. She graduated from Robersonville High School in 1955 and East Carolina College in 1959 with a Secretarial Degree and a B.S. in Business Administration. She worked eight years with Hackney and Sons of Washington and retired after twenty-five years with Beaufort County Community College as Director of Financial Aid. She enjoyed helping students find ways to fund their college education at BCCC and other colleges.

Peggy was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ for approximately 60 years.  She loved her church family and for as long as she was able, was always a willing worker for the church and the Lord.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Joseph “Joe” A. Ayers, of 64 years; son Steven R. Ayers and wife Jody of Winterville; sister, Thelma Joyce J. Bullard of Fayetteville; sister-in-law Linda Jackson of Robersonville; brother Fernando S. Jackson of Washington, and two grandchildren, Samantha and Megan Ayers, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Mary Jane, brothers Cleo Jackson, Jr, and Frank W. Jackson and a precious 5 year old son, Joseph A. “Al” Ayers, Jr., who died in 1973.
