Northside’s baseball season is over after a 6-1 loss to defending 1A state champion Uwharrie Charter of Asheboro Saturday afternoon at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs.
The Panthers (22-8) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Jamie Corprew singled and scored on James Sawyer’s double to left field.
The Eagles (28-6) took the lead for good with four two-out runs in the third on two singles, a double and a three-run home run.
“They are a good hitting team that showed why they are the defending champs,” Northside coach Parker Boyd said. “We gave it our best and lost to a worthy opponent. I’m proud of our guys for a great season.”
Northside won the East title and made it to the state finals for the second time in school history, joining the 1994 championship team in reaching the final series.
“I just told them I loved them and that there’s no reason to be down about our season,” Boyd said. “It was a special group and it was a great accomplishment getting this far.”
Corprew had two of the Panthers four hits, while Sawyer and Hewitt had the other two.
