After earning female track MVP and being the East Regional cross-country champion in the fall, Northside runner Kiele Scott was awarded the Naval ROTC Nursing scholarship worth $200,000. Scott was a multi-sport athlete in high school competing in basketball, volleyball, cross country, and track while also an active member in the Beta Club. On top of being involved, she also maintained a 4.0 GPA taking all honors classes in high school.

Scott competed in the 1A state cross country meet her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, while appearing in four state track meets. She competed in the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter races, was part of the 4x 800 relay team and qualified in the 300 hurdles her freshman year. She finished second in the 800, 3200 and 4x 800 relay in this year’s Coastal Plains Conference meet and was third in the 1600.

“Sports taught me character and leadership, it also developed me as a runner which was big in earning this scholarship,” Scott said. “I wanted to be in the Navy, I had two uncles in the Navy and a bunch of family in the Marines. When this scholarship was brought up to me, I figured it would be perfect because now I can be an officer, a nurse, and then in twenty years get out and work a regular job while still getting paid by the Navy.”

Scott will depart for the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Naval Station in Great Lakes, Illinois directly after graduation on June 27. In the following fall, she will attend Belmont University for nursing while simultaneously attending Vanderbilt for Naval Officer training.
