Northside’s Brandon Arthur earned his nickname of “Bulldog” through his tenacious play on the basketball court and baseball diamond, so it’s fitting that he will continue his baseball career at Barton College, home of the Bulldogs.

Arthur committed to the Division II school in Wilson before he led the Panthers baseball team to the East regional title and a trip to the 1A state finals in Holly Springs.

“He has that true bulldog mentality that will serve him well in college, coach Parker Boyd said. “He’s everything you want in a senior leader and his teammates look up to him because they know he’s the hardest worker out there. He has great character and I’ve enjoyed coaching him since his freshman year. He’s sound mechanically and he’ll help Barton next spring.”

The right-hander earned All-State honors from the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association after going 6-0 with an 0.61 earned run average during the regular season. He struck out 105 batters in 68.2 innings with 25 walks and helped the Panthers win their third straight Coastal Plains 1A/2A conference championship.

“I’d say that one of my career highlights for sure,” Arthur said. “Winning the East and making it to the state finals was also a lot of fun. I enjoyed going to the field every day and being around my teammates who were also my friends.”

Arthur is a National Honor Society member with a 3.9 GPA and will major in business at Barton.

“it’s a small school, like Northside and I enjoyed my campus visit,” Arthur said. “All the pieces fell into place, and I knew immediately this was the right place for me. I’m just going to try to bring a spark every day and earn my spot.”
