The 1A/2A Coastal Plains conference has announced their all-conference softball team that includes three Southside players. The team finished the season 6-11 (1-9 in conference play) placing them at sixth in the conference. The all-conference players include the following:

Junior first-baseman Dana Ransom had a .316 batting average with 18 hits on the year, 10 RBIs and three doubles. She also had a .938 fielding percentage. Head coach Kam Rouse could not say enough about her attitude on the field, “She always had a positive attitude and hated to lose, she was a motivator on the field,” Rouse said. “She was a great all-around softball player, and I can’t say enough good things about her.”

Senior centerfielder Jacqueline Gutierrez led the team with a .520 batting average, which was second in the conference. She had 26 hits, 16 RBIs, four doubles, three triples, and a home run. She also led the team and finished second in the league in on base percentage at .586. “She was a leader for the team, she always lifted everyone up physically and mentally,” Rouse said. “The other girls looked up to her and we will miss her a lot next year.”

Junior third baseman Lily McLean was second on the team and third in the CPC in batting average at .500. McLean finished the year with 29 hits, 14 RBIs, four doubles, and a home run. She had an on base percentage of .525 and led the conference in steals with 29 on the year. “She was always a team player and was really coachable,” Rouse said. “She worked well with the underclassman, her and Ransom will more than likely be my captains next year.”
