League champion Washington High School had six players on the All-Eastern Plains 2A All-Conference team, including the league’s player of the year.
Junior Jamie Perez led the Pam Pack to a 9-0-1 conference record and a 17-1-1 overall mark with a league-leading 36 goals and six assists.
“She was a fierce and mighty player who pushed herself to drive through each play she was involved with,” coach Kendall Cox said. “She set a goal to score more than she did last year, and we changed our formation at the top to aid in that. She’s a lefty with a knack for finding the back of the net.”
Other WHS first-team selections include senior forwards MaryPage Moore, who was selected for the second straight year, Leah Chavez, who had a pair of goals and four assists and defender Haleigh Tallcott.
“All three were captains and MaryPage was one as a junior,” Cox said. Leah was calm and steady on the field and Haleigh was a quiet, solid defender who always got the job done.”
Defender Avery Thomas and forward Angelee Higuera were selected as juniors. Higuera was fourth in the league with 14 goals and tied with Moore for fourth with six assists.
“She was a key starter every game, a play maker and excellent ball handler,” Cox said of Higuera. “Avery was my only junior captain and was one of the toughest girls on the field. She worked hard and was always encouraging and motivating her teammates.”
The six all-conference players led the Pack to the second round of the 2A state tournament.
