Williamston, NC — Henry Dewitt Hardison, a loving husband, father, and “Papa,” passed away on June 15, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on March 20, 1947, Dewitt lived a life full of love, laughter, and hard work. Dewitt was the beloved husband of Tommie Jean Hardison for 55 wonderful years. Together, they built a close-knit family, including their son, Greg Hardison, his wife, Melissa, and their kids, Alex and Izzy; and their daughter, Nickie Brandenburger, her husband, Mark, and their kids, Thomas and Leah. Known affectionately as “Papa” by his grandkids, Dewitt was a fantastic storyteller who always had a tale to tell.

Dewitt was the son of Henry Lee Hardison and Hazel Leigh Andrews Hardison. He was the fourth of five siblings, including Pattie, Frosty, Sandra, and David.

Dewitt attended East Carolina University and graduated from Martin Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Industrial Technology. He taught at Martin Community College, inspiring many students, and worked for 27 years at Dominion Virginia Power. After that, he served the towns of Belhaven and Ayden, NC, contributing significantly to both communities.

Dewitt proudly served as a supply sergeant in the U.S. Army for three years, including a stint in Korea. He was an active member of Holly Springs United Methodist Church, where he once served as a youth leader. Dewitt was also involved in the Lions Club and the Key Club, making lasting friendships along the way. In the 1980s, he enjoyed being part of the Martin County Community Players Theatre Program with his family. He also loved hunting, trapping, and being out in nature.

Dewitt’s life was all about his family, his work, and his community. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him, but his stories and memories will live on.

To honor his memory, a memorial service will be held at Holly Springs United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Holly Springs United Methodist Church in his name. The address is 19621 US Highway 64, Williamston, NC 27892.
