Three-vehicle accident claims life of Washington man

An accident involving three vehicles claimed the life of a Washington man on Wednesday, June 19.
The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 264 in Beaufort County. North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene at approximately 6:19 p.m.
According to State Highway patrol, a 2018 Jeep SUV collided into the rear of a Honda sedan when the driver failed to reduce speed. After colliding into the Honda, the Jeep crossed the centerline then collided head-on into a 2022 GMC SUV and overturned.
Elmer Ray Squires, 46, of Washington, drove the 2018 Jeep. He was transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville where he succumbed to his injuries.
The drivers of the Honda sedan and the GMC SUV were transported to ECU Health Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. There were no passengers in any of the three vehicles.
