Mrs. Carolyn Nancy Doyle Thomas, Age 82, died peacefully, on Monday, July 8, 2024, surrounded by her family at her home in Washington.

Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Washington, on Saturday, July 27, at 2 pm with Rev. Chris Adams officiating. An interment service will be held at St. Matthias’ Episcopal Church, East Aurora, NY.

Carolyn was born November 8, 1941 in Syracuse NY to Ethel and John Doyle. She moved all over New England as a child due to her father being in the chain clothing store management, until settling in East Aurora, NY and attending East Aurora High School. She was an honor student and was selected to be an exchange student to Panama.

An honor graduate of the University of Buffalo, she took graduate courses under a Ford Fellowship. She was president of her dorm. After graduation, she taught high school English and the fifth grade. Carolyn and Bob married on July 16, 1966. In 1973 she moved with her family to Washington, NC. She taught fifth grade honor students for many years until her retirement.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Bob, daughter Amy (Matthew Popp) of Raleigh, son Stephen (Rhonda) of Wilmington, sister Sheryl (Bob Wilson), brother John Doyle (Charlotte) and grandchildren Grace, Audrey, Sarah, and Sean.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice as well as friends and neighbors for everything they have done over the course of Carolyn’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly ask that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church or any other charity of your choosing.
