Beaufort County names new Economic Development Director

WASHINGTON, N.C. – Beaufort County is pleased to announce that Susan Squires has been named the permanent Economic Development Director for the County. Squires has been serving as the Interim Economic Development Director since the passing of former Director Brad Hufford. The Economic Development Director is responsible for promoting the business and economic development interests of the County and working with clients to establish, relocate or expand their businesses.
Prior to her role as Interim Director, Squires served as the Economic Development Specialist for the Department. She has also worked for the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the Beaufort County Planning and Inspections Department. Squires is a North Carolina Certified Economic Developer, an Air Force veteran and has over 30 years of federal and local government work experience.
“We are very pleased to have Sue in the permanent role of County Economic Development Director. She has done an amazing job of leading the Department during her time as the Interim Director. We look forward to her continued leadership and the positive impact she will undoubtedly bring to future economic development endeavors,” said County Manager Brian Alligood.
Squires’ permanent title was effective on July 8, 2024.
