Pastor Phillip Edward Jethro, age 84, a resident of Chocowinity, died Thursday, August 1, 2024, at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 3:00 PM at 15th Street Church of God with Pastor Charles McCullough, Pastor Michael Bayer, and Pastor Jeff Person officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Plymouth with Military Honors. Linwood Woolard, Kenneth Keech, Milton Bennett, Jonathan Sawyer, Tuell Waters and Duke Scott will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service and other times at the home.

Pastor Jethro was born on March 24, 1940, in Washington County to the late John “Jack” Henry Jethro and Essie Dean Ansell Jethro. He was a 1958 graduate of Plymouth High School and a graduate of East Coast Bible College in Kenly, NC. Pastor Jethro served his country in the US Air Force. He pastored two churches in his career as a Church of God Minister. First at the West Smithfield Church of God from 1973-1981 and Alligood Church of God from 1981-until his retirement in 2017. After his retirement he attended 15th Street Church of God. He was preceded in death by brothers, Russell L. Jethro, James H. Jethro, Bobby R. Jethro and John F. Jethro, sisters, Iva Dean Sawyer, and Irene Wilson.

Survivors include his wife Darlene Ansell Jethro of the home, daughter, Phyllis Jethro Butler (Steve) of Bath, sons, Phillip “Phil” Edward Jethro, Jr. of Knotts Island and Jeremy Brent Jethro of Proctor, NH, brothers, Shelton G. Jethro of Vanceboro and Paul G. Jethro of Winterville, sister, Harriet Person (Tom) of Plymouth, grandchildren, Ashley Sawyer, Crystal Eure, Abigail and Alexandra Jethro, great grandchildren, Maci and Chloe Eure.
