From First Bank:

First Bank recently awarded a $10,000 grant to Eagles Wings Food Pantry in Washington, NC as a part of First Bank’s Power of Good Grant program in 2024.

The funds will be used to help feed and fuel families in Beaufort County.

The team members at First Bank in Washington have been supporting Eagles Wings for several years through local food drives and collections but this gift is very exciting for the team. Kahlia Young, Manager at First Bank, said of the grant, “We have been regular donors at Christmas time and when there was need, but this is very exciting and we can’t wait to see how it helps Eagles Wings assist even more families in our area.”

Vanessa Love, Executive Director of Eagle’s Wings said of the Grant, “The grant awarded to us was received at a perfect time as it will help to extend our reach to feed more children and families during this upcoming school year. Alarming statistics suggest that 1 in 5 children go to sleep hungry in the United States and in Beaufort County 1 in 4 go to bed hungry. This grant will be used to provide more balanced and nutritional meals by offering a greater selection of fruits, vegetables, and proteins to help combat lack of nutrition. A balanced nutrition gives our families the energy they need to tackle their day-to-day routines and provide a better quality of life.” To find out more about Eagle’s Wings the team invites you to take a tour of the facility and meet some of the amazing volunteers that help the organization thrive as they combat food insecurity. General information about the Power of Good Grants:

Building on the success of our Project Launch campaign in 2022, First Bank saw the need to help non-profit leaders and educators in the communities we serve that were doing great things to help our neighbors. With Corporate Citizenship being at the core of what First Bank believes, we created the Power of Good Grants, giving monetary grants to non-profit leaders and educators throughout the Carolinas to better support the important work they do, day in and day out, with those who need it most. The Power of Good Grant program focuses on 4 key areas of support:

• Affordable Housing & Home Ownership
• Education (All ages, traditional and nontraditional environments)
• Food Scarcity/Deserts & Supply
• Mental, Physical & Financial Health/Wellness

Applicants may apply at https://localfirstbank.com/power-of-good-grants/ and are asked to fully describe their project or idea and how it fits into the above categories. Since it began, First Bank has given over $230,000 in grants to various organizations/individuals throughout North and South Carolina doing GOOD in the community.
