RALEIGH – Joshua Buck of Williamston listened to his stepdad on Saturday morning and bought a $30 scratch-off, a decision that led to a $100,000 win.

“I had bought one ticket that didn’t win but my stepdad told me the next one is going to be a winner,” Buck recalled, “so I bought one more.”

The next ticket he bought, a Supreme 7s scratch-off from Twin Rivers Fuel Market on M.L.K. Jr Boulevard in New Bern, proved his stepdad right.

“I really and truly couldn’t believe it,” Buck said.

He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,509.

Buck said he plans to use the money to buy a new truck.

The Supreme 7s game debuted in July with four $4 million top prizes and 10 $100,000 prizes. Three $4 million prizes and eight $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
