With seven meets down and nine to go, the Terra Ceia cross country Knights are looking to win their third straight championship going back to 2022 when they were part of the Tarheel Independent Conference.
Since joining the Mid Athletic Christian Athletic Association, a larger conference of 20 schools from North Carolina and Virginia, Terra Ceia has dominated the course. With constant improvement, they have won every conference meet and their only two losses in two years came against a strong Greenville Christian Academy. However, in the last meeting between the two non-conference opponents, Terra Ceia buckled down and even shut out GCA.
The varsity boys team is led by a trio of runners who are completing the 5K course in under 19 minutes. Troy Wright, Coby Alligood and Tanner Carawan pack it in and are usually the first three across the line. The next three, Levi Wright, Lawson Holland and lone senior Dustin Carrow, are right on their heels.
The middle school boys are also undefeated in conference and only have one loss to non-conference powerhouse Hilltop Christian of Fuquay-Varina. The team consists of Carter Ewell, Squires Tunstall, Izak Wright, Wesley Stowe and Carter Stowe. They have dominated the 3K races and done extremely well in the 5K races as well.
The middle school girls are also undefeated and only have one loss to non-conference, Hilltop Christian as well. The girls are led by 5th grader Cabella Alligood, who has posted some very impressive times, including a new school record in the women’s 5K of 24:14. She is barely ahead of returning runner Emma Spinner and newcomer Savi Spinner.
Terra Ceia currently does not have a varsity girls team but is looking to add some runners and move some current runners up next year.
The MACAA Championships will be in Greenville October 14 and the Knights plan on sweeping all races that they have runners competing in. The competition will be tough, so the team is working hard every day to earn it, because there is no other way.
