Barbara Ann Denton Strickland, 91, of Belhaven, NC died Sunday, September 29, 2024, at her home.

Born in Franklin County on April 9, 1933 to the late William Bervon Denton and Berla Alford Denton, Barbara was a 1952 graduate of Wakelon High School where she played women’s half-court basketball. On April 17, 1954, she married Jimmie Lee Strickland who preceded her in death in 2018.

Barbara was a member of Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church for 34 years, where she served as a greeter and a member of Women on Missions, the Hospitality Meal Planning Team and the sanctuary choir. Barbara volunteered at Pungo District Hospital for 21 years until it closed its doors. She helped create many beautiful quilts for the young residents of the Baptist Children’s Home in Kinston through her work with the quilting group at her church and the “Threads of the Pungo” quilting group.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Kim Strickland (Brian Kingston), two grandchildren, Kristina Kyles (William) and Timothy Sellers, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Coleman Denton, Harold Denton, and Willie Gray Denton, and sister, Kay Denton Clark.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Henry Gray officiating.
