Gene Rogers Alligood, age 84, passed away peacefully at home in Chocowinity, NC on September 30, 2024. His wife Sharon and beloved caregiver, Mary Linton, were by his side. Gene was born in Washington in 1940 and was preceded in death by his parents, Kerney Alligood and Hallie Waters Alligood.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, son Gene (Barbara) Alligood of Miami, FL and son David Alligood of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his sister Judy (Larry) Bailey of Chocowinity and stepsons, Paul Anglin and Michael Anglin, both of Dayton, OH.
Gene grew up in Elizabeth City, NC where he graduated High School. He went on to receive a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina Chaple Hill and later an MBA from San Diego University.
Gene proudly served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves.
Gene joined NCR Corporation in 1968 where he worked various marketing and product development roles, his last assignment being Product Manager for the Europe Group. He traveled extensively throughout the world representing NCR’S interests.
After retiring, Gene was able to pursue his love of boating and was a distinguished member of the United States Power Squadrons. He served the organization in several capacities and in 2016 was elected Commander of District 27 for North Carolina.
Gene enjoyed his retirement years living in the Cypress Landing Community. Not being a shy person, he was very well known throughout the neighborhood. Most friends and neighbors will remember him saying “I’m sure glad you got to see me today”.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public memorial service.
