Construction: Congestion
The Douglas Crossroads intersection will be upgraded to a Roundabout. Construction began in February of 2024. Traffic will be maintained during the course of the project, with several lane closures and traffic shifts as the project progresses. As of Monday April 8th, 2024, traffic at the Douglas Crossroads Intersection was shifted to a new traffic pattern. Designated turn lanes and caution lights at the intersection have been removed. Traffic lanes have been shifted slightly North to accommodate construction. On Friday, September 6th, the intersection will be transitioned into the preliminary roundabout traffic pattern. Final pavement markings, concrete islands, paving, and signs will be installed following this traffic shift. Beginning the week of 9/30/2024, the contractor will be paving the final lift of asphalt pavement. The following week, the contractor will be constructing concrete monolithic islands. The contractor will be utilizing near daily lane closures in order to perform this work, which will result in congestion, and traffic delays of up to 30 minutes. Vehicles are advised to lower speed and follow all work zone traffic control signs and devices. Expected impact to traffic is Medium.

Alternate Route
Alternate routes will be advertised in the press release, and message boards will be placed to inform the traveling public in advance of the work area. It is strongly encouraged for passenger vehicles to utilize alternate routes if possible, but there will not be signage designating them as such. Passenger vehicles could use a combination of Neck Road, Black Road, and Harvey Road to the South of the Intersection. Passenger vehicles could use a combination of Braddy Road, Mill Hole Road, Terrapin Track Road, and Lizzard Slip Road to the North of the Intersection.
