Top 3: Washington’s Makepeace among big-game performers

Week 7 of the high school football season brought some dramatic performances from several area athletes.
Washington went to Farmville Central for an Eastern Plains Conference game and came away with a 27-9 win. Washington (3-3, 2-0 EPC) sits atop the league standings ahead of Friday’s homecoming with Greene Central.
Northside, which also had homecoming, won in overtime against rival Pamlico County, 41-35, in the Coastal Plains Conference opener for both schools. The Panthers go to East Carteret on Friday. The Panthers improved to 5-2, 1-0.
Southside (0-6) tied the game against American Leadership Academy-Johnston late in the first half but never got closer in a 36-6 loss. The Seahawks go to Pamlico County on Friday.
Pungo Christian was off and will host Community Christian on Friday.
Below are the top performances from the area for the week.
No. 1: Evan Makepeace, Washington: Was 7-for-17 for 109 yards and two touchdowns (5, 62 yards). He also rushed for a 4-yard touchdown.
No. 2: Sincere Columbus, Northside: Rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. He scored on runs of 8, 79 and 10 yards, which was the winning score in overtime.
No. 3: Keondrick Melton, Washington: Rushed for 141 yards on 28 carries with a 3-yard touchdown run.

- TJ Minor, Southside: Had 107 yards rushing on 21 carries. He was part of a Seahawks offense that rushed for 216 yards on 57 carries.

- Chance Haywood, Southside: Played the whole game at quarterback and completed both of his passes for 54 yards and a 19-yard touchdown to MyQuan Clark.
