The Salvation Army’s Sustaining Campaign raised just over $46,000 this year. The drive, which started on May 7, was intended to get the Salvation through the summer months, which are typically a slow time of year for donations.

“We can’t thank our donors enough for their contributions, said Sgt. Les Ashby, interim commander of the Washington Salvation Army Post. “The actual campaign lasted for just two weeks, but we continued to take donations throughout the summer to help us get through a typically rough period for donations. I would like to personally thank the former commander, Major Vic Tidman, for his foresight in organizing the campaign. Our current plan is to launch another Sustaining Campaign in February of next year with a goal of raising $60,000.”

Ashby also thanked campaign chair Rocky Jacob and co-chairs Charlie Manning and Bob Parker for all of their hard work.

The Salvation Army also announced that Angel Trees will be up once again this year at the Walmart stores in Washington and Williamston, beginning on November 1. The program allows people to get an angel from the tree and shop for a child in need. Those in need of assistance can apply beginning Monday, Oct. 14, through Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Washington Salvation Army headquarters located at 112 E. 7th Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition, corporations and churches are encouraged to adopt angels and may do so by contacting the Salvation Army at 252-946-2523.
