Investigation of multiple breaking & entering and larceny incidents leads to arrest

On Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, at about 4 p.m., Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to an address on Gray Rd. in Chocowinity for a reported breaking and entering and larceny from a residence, where firearms were stolen.
Later, at about 11:30 p.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center received an alarm activation call for the Handy Mart located on River Road in Washington.
Deputies responded to the scene where they found the business had been broken into with multiple items stolen, including a cash register. The suspect fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival. Deputies gathered evidence and conducted interviews. A suspect was developed and identified as the same person for both incidents.
Deputies learned where the suspect was located and responded to the residence on North Peirce Street in Washington. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Dustin William Campbell of Washington, NC, was taken into custody without incident.
Campbell was taken before a Beaufort County Magistrate where probable cause was found charging Campbell with two counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, three counts of Larceny after Breaking & Entering, one count of Safecracking, two counts of Injury to Personal Property and two counts of Felony Larceny of a Firearm. Campbell was ordered held in the Beaufort County Detention Center without bond.
