Beaufort County Schools is committed to ensuring the safety of our students, employees, families, and community members who attend, work, and visit our public schools. To further enhance current safety and security protocols, the school district will implement metal detectors at middle and high schools beginning Wednesday October 23, 2024.

To strengthen our commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, metal detectors will be used on an intermittent basis at various school entry points and locations throughout the school building.  Additionally, metal detectors may be used at athletic events and other after school extra-curricular activities.  Participants and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for security screenings.

The Board of Education appreciates the community’s support as this measure is intended to deter individuals from bringing inappropriate and/or dangerous items onto school campus.  If the metal detection system alerts officials, then the individual will be subject to a secondary search by school administration and/or law enforcement. Individuals found with prohibited items will be subject to disciplinary measures.
