GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Northside’s golf team finished as regional runner-up while Washington placed 12th at the Class 1-A/2-A East Regional golf tournament at Goldsboro Golf Course.
The two-day tournament wrapped up Tuesday with the Panthers eight shots outside the top spot (269). NC School of Science and Math won with an overall score of 261. Washington finished with a 326.
“It wasn’t our best but we are focused and ready for another opportunity,” Northside coach Jared Adams said. “But we have nothing to be ashamed of for a traditional school our size to compete at that level against 1-A and 2-A schools.”
Claire Holmes had the highest finish for Northside, carding an 84 to finish tied for fourth, four shots off the top spot. Yuwen He of NCSSM won with an 80 over the two days.
Sophie Berry was 8th with a 90, Samantha Braddy was tied for 12th with a 95 and Riley Hudson was 27th with a 103.
Sally Ross led Washington with a 105, good enough for a tie for 33rd. Other Pam Pack golfers were Brooklyn Bowes (tied 37th, 107), Caroline Mitchell (tied 51st, 114) and Kathryn Gautier (tied 56th, 116).
“Sally had the second-lowest freshman score in the match,” Washington coach Lane Raper said. “We are excited for the next three years with the players coming back.”
The two-day state tournament will be held at Sapona Golf Club in Lexington on Monday and Tuesday. Holmes (9:45 a.m.), Berry (9:54 a.m.), Braddy (10:03 a.m.) and Hudson (10:21) tee off consecutively in threesomes starting Monday.
