Northside volleyball in second round, Washington tennis falls

Northside’s volleyball team will head down the road for its second-round state playoff game on Thursday. Meanwhile, Washington’s tennis team dropped a tough match on Wednesday against Roanoke Rapids.
Northside golf finishes second at East Regional, Washington 12th
Northside improved to 18-4 with a 25-12, 25-6, 25-10 win over Northampton. The Panthers will go to Bear Grass (15-6) for a Thursday, 6 p.m. match. The Bears beat Clover Garden School on Tuesday.
Northside and Bear Grass have already played each other with each winning their respective home matches. The winner will play again on Saturday.
Southside and Washington volleyball had their seasons end in Tuesday’s first round of the state playoffs. Southside lost at Falls Lake to end its season at 7-15. Washington fell in three games at Bunn to end the season at 9-8.
Washington’s tennis team fell 5-4 at Roanoke Rapids to end their season in the Class 2-A dual team playoffs. Avery Thomas and Addie Gibbs will participate in the Class 2-A individual state tournament this Friday in Holly Springs. Their first opponent will be Bailey Shadoan and Claire Coady of Seaforth.
Southside’s team of Eliza Grace Jones and Valeria Gonzalez are heading to the Class 1-A tennis state championships in Cary.
The rest of the fall sports, cross country, cheerleading, soccer and football, are wrapping up their respective seasons. Northside will host the 1-A cross country regional on Saturday. Washington will go to South Lenoir for the 2-A cross country regional meet.
Soccer starts its state playoffs on Nov. 9 while football will begin the postseason on Nov. 15.
