Personal Statement:
I am currently on the Beaufort County School Board, and I am running for re-election for District 7. I have always been a strong supporter of our school system. I graduated from Washington High School, as did both of my children. We offer many academic opportunities as well as Trade/Workforce training and certifications. After COVID created pitfalls for many of our students in Beaufort County, as well as across the state and country, we knew it would take some time to get back to where we were prior to the Pandemic and remote learning. Our teachers and support staff worked tirelessly to get our students back on track. I am proud to say that we are NOT a low performing school district. Our data continues to reflect the hard work put in by our BCS students, staff and families. Parents are more involved than ever before. I visit our schools throughout the county fairly often because I know the importance of letting our teachers know we support them on a daily basis. I love seeing student engagement. As a Board member, we have to make difficult decisions on funding, but we encourage our Principals and BCS families to get involved in the process. It takes the involvement from all stakeholders to get the desired results.
Our students are the most important part of our community. They need our support and encouragement to advance their education, enlist in armed forces or learn a trade. We refer to this as the three E’s: Enroll, Enlist, Employ! It is my job, as well as all other Board members to support these students in all endeavors.
