On July 19 at approximately 11:30 p.m., deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute at Eagles Nest Campground on U.S. Highway 17 near Vanceboro.
Upon arrival, deputies began an investigation and observed a person showing signs of impairment. Deputies soon discovered that the person was in possession of a substance known as “bath salts.”
As a result of evidence collected during the investigation, Cpl. Michael Sheppard arrested James Dennis Shortt, 46, of Bay Lake Drive, Chocowinity, and charged him with possession of MDPV (a psychoactive drug) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Shortt was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $2,000 secured bond.
