Washington, NC — Open Door Women’s Shelter, a program of Open Door Community Center and Washington’s local homeless shelter for women and children, is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from the Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment, a component fund of the North Carolina Community Foundation, in the amount of $35,000.

This generous funding will support shelter operations aimed at providing homeless women and children with emergency shelter and case management services.

The grant will enable Open Door to continue providing community members in need with safe, temporary shelter while connecting them with skills and community resources that will enable them to transition into long-term, stable housing. This funding is crucial to advancing the organization’s desire to be a beacon of hope for women facing homelessness.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment & North Carolina Community Foundation for their support,” said Laurie Stewart, Executive Director at Open Door. “This grant will allow us to operate our shelter at full capacity, which will have a direct, positive impact on our clients.”

Stewart goes on to say, “It takes a lot of community support to run a non-profit. Our donors include individuals, businesses, civic organizations, and the faith community. The shelter also receives grants from local, state, and federal government as well as private foundations and corporate grantors. The Burevitch Endowment has been a loyal supporter of our mission for years and we’re thrilled to be receiving these funds once again.”
