James Andrew Leggett, age 87, a resident of Belhaven, died Tuesday, November 24, 2024, at his home.

A memorial service, with military honors will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM at St. Clair’s Church of Christ with Rev. Craig Hagen officiating. The family will be receiving friends at a reception following the service.

James was born on August 29, 1937, in Martin County to the late Andrew and Rosie Edmondson Leggett. He attended Williamston High School and served his country in the US Navy, as an “Atomic” veteran, being the last surviving member of that specialized group. James retired as salesman with Zidell Companies. He was a member of St. Clair’s Church of Christ. James loved to fish, work in his yard, travel and loved his family. He was a very giving person. James was preceded in death by his brothers, Andy, and Leroy Leggett.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Dean Matheson Leggett of the home, sons, Scott Andrew Leggett of Whittier, CA and James “Jamie” Edward Leggett of Greenville, brother, Gene Leggett (Jean) of Williamston, sister, Janie Lee (Frankie) of Merry Hill, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to, St. Clair’s Church of Christ, 9814 NC 99 Hwy South, Bath, NC  27808.
