Washington’s boys basketball team improved to 6-0 after holding off Greenfield School 75-72 Saturday at the Montrez Harrell Classic at the Rocky Mount Event Center.
Chaise Smith scored 25 points and added four assists to lead the Pack. Jarryn Payne added 24 points and 10 rebounds and Jacob Daniels had 11 points and four rebounds. Daniels hit three 3-pointers and Smith had two.
The Pam Pack will play Fayetteville Academy, another private school, on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the Greenfield Holiday Tournament. They’ll play another game against an undetermined opponent the next day before the Christmas break.
Southside tops NECP
TARBORO, N.C. — Southside’s boys picked up their first win of the season while the girls’ team improved to 3-3 with victories on Friday.
Southside’s boys won 82-74 to improve to 1-5 for the season under first-year head coach Otis Harrell. Northside’s girls won 56-13.
I’Kiriyah Minor led Southside with 12 points, five rebounds and two steals. Indiah Moore and Tamya Smith each had 11 points. Smith chipped in eight rebounds.
No additional details were available on the Southside boys win.
Washington’s Bates wins at Beast of the East
GREENVILLE, N.C. — Washington’s Marek Bates won at 215 pounds and Andrew Foreman finished third at 120 pounds at the Beast of the East wrestling event on Saturday.
Bates went unbeaten in his weight class and won by decision over Croatan’s Porter Ingels, 7-3.

Washington finishes second at swim meet
WASHINGTON, N.C. — Washington’s boys and girls each placed second to Croatan on Saturday at the Hildred T. Moore Aquatic & Fitness Center.
Washington’s boys won one gold and four silver medals in a 180-51 decision. Southside also swam but did not place in any events.
Gabe Niederhauser won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.92.
Washington’s girls won two gold and two silver medals as Croatan won the meet, 200-56. Aubrey Woolard won two gold, a silver and a bronze medals. She was first in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.03. She won the 100-meter butterfly in 1:07.98.
