Two Washington High School senior football players will get to suit up and play one more time in January.
Gabe Davis and Keondrick Melton were among the many players from around the area and central North Carolina who will make up the 919/252 Showcase rosters. Both will play for the 252 team on Jan. 4 when the two teams square off at John Paul II Catholic School in Greenville.
Former Washington coach Matt Taylor is an assistant coach for the 252 team, which will be led by J.H. Rose coach Will Bland. More details, including the game time, were scheduled to be released sometime later, according to Shawn Tolson of ENC Elite Sports, which is putting on the game.
Davis had a stellar 2024 season on offense and defense for the Pam Pack. He earned All-Eastern Plains Conference honors and was named Washington’s Defensive Player of the Year. The middle linebacker and fullback led the team with 93 tackles (8.5 per game), 76 of them solo.
Like Davis, Melton played on both sides of the ball but found his success on the offensive side. He also earned All-Eastern Plains Conference honors and was the league’s player of the year. Melton was also named Washington’s Offensive Player of the Year. He rushed for 1,629 yards and 17 touchdowns on 237 carries, averaging 148.1 yards rushing and 6.9 yards a carry.
