A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday January 12, 2025, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Washington and will be officiated by Rev. Chris Adams. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
Florette was born on July 18, 1934, in Roxobel, NC, the daughter of the late Leon Charles Peele, Sr. and Lois Alberta Jacobs Peele. She attended Roxobel-Kelford schools and graduated from Middlesex High School in 1952. She graduated from Meredith College in 1956 with a BS in Home Economics. Florette had a lovely singing voice and was often asked to sing at weddings and at the ceremony for the reopening of Chowan College.
Florette’s first job was the home demonstration agent of Northampton County. She married N. Henry Moore, Jr. on June 8, 1957, at Sandy Run Baptist Church in Roxobel. After marrying and moving to Washington, NC, she taught home economics for a year at Bath High School, and she then retired and became a full-time mother to four daughters. Florette was a wonderful cook and seamstress, and an avid gardener. She spent many hours a day working in her yard, and she also loved spending time on the boat with her husband on the Pamlico River.
Florette was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, singing in the choir, and serving faithfully on the altar guild for many years. She also delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Stratford Book Club.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Leon Charles Peele, Jr., and Richard Donald Peele, and her grandson, Joseph Rochel Hendrick, III.
Florette is survived by her husband of 67 years, Nathaniel Henry Moore, Jr., and their four daughters, Lois Moore Reaves (Donald) of Clayton, Mary Beckwith “Becky” Moore Boinest (Trip) of Shelby, Carolyn Moore Mitchell (Bob) of Cary, and Margaret Moore Spitler (David) of Oxford. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nathan Reaves (Raphaelle), Austin Reaves, Collin Reaves (Ann), Dr. Katherine Hendrick, Greyson Mitchell, Davis Mitchell, Elizabeth Mitchell, Anna Kathleen Spitler, Samuel Spitler, and Joshua Spitler; and four great grandchildren, Luca Reaves, Téo Reaves, Chloe Reaves, and Hardy Reaves.
A special thank you to Florette’s caregivers, Monique, Linda, Jessie, Kendall, Vernice, and Stacy. We were all blessed by their loving care.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church All Souls Fund, 101, North Bonner Street, Washington, NC 27889.
Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Moore family.
