Katherine Bright Simmons, 50, of 975 Main Street, Swan Quarter died on Friday, February 22, 2008, at home.
Born in Beaufort County, June 11, 1957, she was the daughter of Lenora R. Bright and the late John Lenford Bright. She and her husband owned and operated the former Mattamuskeet Inn for some twenty years, was a former member of the Board of Directors of Greater Hyde County Chamber of Commerce and a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener and had a special love for flowers.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the family plot in Mount Olive Church of Christ Cemetery in the Ponzer Community. Pastors Valerie Ballance and Richard Smartnick will officiate.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph “Joey” Leslie Simmons IV; her mother, Lenora “Nonie” R. Bright of the home; a son, Joseph “Jay” Leslie Simmons V of Fairfield; a daughter, Averi E. Simmons of Greenville; two sisters, Beverly B. Meekins and husband Michael of Engelhard and Debra B. Webb of Knightdale.
