Downtown Washington on the Waterfront is combining its Farmers’ Market and its Saturday Market into one market, keeping the name Saturday Market.
Saturday Market begins its fourth year April 26. Saturday Market will be held every Saturday through Oct. 18. Each Saturday Market begins at 8 a.m. and ends at noon.
Miller said Saturday Market wants to work out an agreement with Summer Festival organizers so both events can be held during the same weekend in June.
Saturday Market will feature farmers selling their goods and artisans selling their hand-crafted wares. Farmers typically bring vegetables, plants, flowers and other items they grow. Other vendors bring items like homemade baked goods, jellies, jams and relishes. Artisans’ wares include items like jewelry, pottery, needlework and furniture.
Miller said meeting participants came up with the concept of having a series of trunk shows to be held during five of the Saturday Markets. Each trunk show will have a specific theme, and 25 parking places will be reserved for exhibitors, he said.
One trunk show will feature boating equipment and fishing equipment. Another trunk show will feature football, baseball, soccer and other sports’ items for youth sports.
Meeting participants also suggested reducing fees that vendors pay for spaces at Saturday Market.
